Internet Research

For internet research, for our data collection, we researched the history and background of rap culture to understand its purpose. Also, research how rap culture evolved over time. Other than, for our internet research we try to find its relations towards common concerning issues, BLM, drug abuse, misogyny.

Rap has evolved from its not being accepted in TVs, and radios into being accepted and being the top genre in 2018. Also, based on the study done by Jabari M. Evans, rap become a way for artists to express themselves and how it helps the artists to give out their personal 'voice'.

Interview

For our interview, we got to interview rappers from Malaysia (MicWrecka, KAYDA) and Australia (Harelia). We got lucky we got to interview rappers from different parts of the world so we got to get different views.

We also watched a Netflix documentary series called Hip Hop Evolution and YouTube interviews that talk about rap culture. From both of the videos, they explained the history of rap and what is the purpose of rap at first.

For our survey, we gathered information from a bunch of respondents. The questions ask them where they stand within the rap culture. What do they think the purpose of rap is, have the purpose shifted over time, differences between rap from different parts of the world.
